Welcome to the website for the Global Iron Summit which took place on 3 November 2007 in Frankfurt, Germany.

The meeting, chaired by Professor Maria Domenica Cappellini, was held to provide clinicians with the opportunity to learn what the current status is with regard to iron overload, its causes, and what treatment options are available.

The morning plenary sessions addressed the impact of iron toxicity across different disease states and the subsequent challenges in achieving iron balance. After each plenary session, a lively panel discussion was held with the faculty.

In the afternoon, breakout sessions were conducted with a view to enhancing awareness of the treatment options for anaemias and the importance of iron chelation therapy.

The meeting concluded with a state-of-the-art presentation on the role of iron in various disease pathologies, followed by an opportunity to ask questions.
